Home Sleep Test (HSAT)

A Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT)—also known as a home sleep apnea test—is a simplified way for patients to be evaluated for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in the comfort of their own home. The device records your breathing, oxygen, and heart rate while you sleep, allowing your physician to determine if pauses in breathing are occurring overnight.

At TriCity Lung & Sleep, we coordinate every step of the process to make it easy for both patients and referring providers. Once your physician determines that a home test is appropriate, our team reviews your medical history and insurance coverage before scheduling your test. We handle the logistics, provide instructions, and ensure the results are interpreted by a board-certified sleep medicine physician in accordance with American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) guidelines.

What to Expect

Most patients are surprised by how easy home testing is. The small monitoring device is typically worn overnight and records airflow, oxygen saturation, respiratory effort, and heart rate. You’ll return the device the next day—either by drop-off or mail—and our team reviews the data promptly. Once interpreted, we’ll contact you and your referring provider with the official report and next steps.

Our Role in Your Care

While every home sleep test requires a physician order, we work directly with both patients and providers to simplify the process. Our staff confirms medical appropriateness, verifies insurance benefits, manages authorizations, and ensures timely communication between all parties. Our goal is to make testing seamless, accurate, and aligned with your overall treatment plan.

  • Review of symptoms, health history, and insurance coverage
  • Device setup, instructions, and patient education
  • Data review and interpretation by board-certified sleep physicians
  • Results sent to the referring provider and patient follow-up

If your results indicate obstructive sleep apnea or another sleep-related breathing disorder, your provider will discuss next steps—such as CPAP Titration, advanced testing, or other therapies.
