CPAP Titration Study
A CPAP Titration Study is an overnight in-lab test used to determine the most effective settings for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy—one of the most common and proven treatments for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). During the study, specialized equipment measures your breathing and adjusts air pressure levels throughout the night to find the setting that eliminates breathing interruptions and restores normal oxygen and sleep patterns.
At TriCity Lung & Sleep, we conduct titration studies under physician supervision at our accredited sleep centers. Every study is ordered based on clinical need—typically after a diagnostic sleep study confirms sleep apnea. Our staff reviews your medical history, insurance coverage, and prior results to ensure the test is medically appropriate and approved before scheduling. From start to finish, we coordinate the logistics, communicate with your provider, and ensure your study meets AASM standards for therapeutic sleep studies.
What to Expect
A titration study feels similar to a standard overnight sleep study. You’ll sleep in a quiet, comfortable room while monitored by a registered technologist. Once asleep, gentle air pressure is delivered through a small mask to help keep your airway open. The technologist will adjust the pressure as needed to eliminate snoring, pauses in breathing, and oxygen drops. These adjustments are recorded in real time so that your physician can prescribe precise pressure settings or recommend a specific device after the study.
Our Role in Your Care
Because CPAP titration is part of a physician-directed treatment plan, our team works closely with both patients and providers to ensure accuracy, comfort, and continuity of care. We verify insurance coverage and obtain any required authorizations, guide you through mask fitting, and ensure your results are reviewed by a board-certified sleep medicine physician. Once interpreted, we share results promptly with your referring provider to help initiate or adjust therapy.
- Overnight testing in an accredited sleep lab
- Personalized air pressure adjustments during sleep
- Medical and insurance review prior to testing
- Interpretation by board-certified sleep physicians
- Results and recommendations shared with your provider
Following titration, many patients begin CPAP therapy at home with improved energy, concentration, and daytime alertness. Our team continues to provide follow-up support and compliance monitoring to help ensure successful, long-term results.
